Greece often brings to mind island-hopping routes through the Cyclades or long days spent exploring the Peloponnese.

Yet one of the country’s most rewarding drives sits largely under the radar, winding through the lush landscapes of Epirus before crossing to some of the Ionian’s most beautiful islands.

Parga

Parga makes an ideal starting point because it immediately sets a different tone from many Greek destinations. The town curves around a sheltered bay, where fishing boats bob alongside waterfront tavernas and pastel-coloured buildings climb the hillside behind them.

You can spend your first afternoon wandering through the old streets before following the path up to Parga Castle.
