There were only a few shops open, but I found a handful of cozy cafes and souvenir spots worth checking out. As we walked along the cobbled streets, I couldn’t help but take advantage of the picturesque photo opportunities. While it wasn’t as bustling as I had imagined, it was still a charming spot to explore, and I can see how, in a few years, this area will be a major draw for visitors.

One of the highlights of Sun World is Hon Thom Cable Car, the world’s longest cable car system! It begins at the southern tip of Phu Quoc and takes you over a stunning fishing harbor and two islands, with Hon Thom Island as its final destination. Unfortunately, during my visit, the cable car was under maintenance. One of the must-see spots in the north is the famous Grand World Phu Quoc, often dubbed Vietnam’s first-ever “sleepless city.” This area is full of round-the-clock entertainment, Venetian-style shophouses, vibrant bars and clubs, and even the Corona Casino – the only legal casino in Vietnam open to locals!

While I’m not one for late-night partying, I have to say the Venetian-inspired canal and lagoon was intriguing. I hopped on a gondola for a sail down the colorful waterway, and it was a surprisingly peaceful way to start the morning.

However, when I visited shortly after the pandemic, the area was fairly deserted. Some shops were open, but there wasn’t much action. In a way, this made it perfect for photography – I saw Korean tourists happily taking pictures all over the place, striking poses without a care in the world as if they had the entire “city” to themselves! The architecture, while a bit over-the-top for my taste, is actually quite impressive, and some photo spots can genuinely make you feel like you’ve been transported to Italy. I’ve seen videos of Grand World packed with visitors during the Chinese New Year holidays, so it might be a completely different vibe if you visit during the high season.

Midday: Fun for Everyone at VinWonders Phu Quoc

After soaking up the atmosphere at Grand World, it’s time for some thrills at VinWonders Phu Quoc, the island’s premier theme park. This place is designed for all kinds of fun, whether you’re traveling with kids or just a kid at heart. The theme park is divided into different zones, each with its own attractions. Some highlights include:

I spent a good chunk of my afternoon here, and it’s perfect for families or anyone interested in wildlife.

The safari tour lets you get up close with animals like giraffes, elephants, and even white tigers! If you have the chance, try to catch one of their conservation talks – I found them super informative, and it’s nice to see that they’re focusing on the welfare and protection of endangered species. Plan to spend at least a few hours here if you want to fully enjoy the experience.

Evening: Wrapping Up at Cửa Cạn Market

After a day filled with excitement, you might want to unwind with a more low-key evening. Head over to Cửa Cạn Market, where you can immerse yourself in the local vibe and pick up some fresh produce or snacks. This market is a bit less touristy than those in the southern part of the island, which makes it feel more authentic. I loved wandering through the stalls, chatting with vendors, and tasting some of the freshest fruits I’ve had in Vietnam.
