Choosing a Soldering Station

What to Consider

Power 40-70 watts is enough for electronics. More power means better heat recovery, not higher temperature. This helps when soldering large ground planes or thick wires.

Temperature Range and Stability Look for:

  • Adjustable range of at least 200°C to 450°C.
  • Stability of ±5°C or better.
  • Digital display (nice to have, not required).

  • Solder bridge: Solder connects two pins. Fix with desoldering braid.
  • Too much solder: Can hide bad joints and cause shorts.
  • Burnt parts: Too much heat can damage parts and lift pads.
  • Dirty tip: A dirty tip won’t transfer heat well.
