Grand Canyon – Helicopter tours

When you visit the Grand Canyon, consider a helicopter ride. Trust me, it would be a smart decision to make…

Flying on the Grand Canyon…

Gand Canyon - HelicopterI never know, or actually, bother to find out about the geography of the Grand Canyon. “Grand” means “Big” in French, so yes, it’s big and until I found out how big…

Gand Canyon - HelicopterMost people went to Grand Canyon as a spin-off episode while they were visiting Las Vegas. From there, they saw the West rim – Indian Village, the U Skywalk designed by David Jin, the river and the canyon. In fact, most of these places are not located in the “Grand Canyon National Park”. Technically, they saw the Canyon, but not the Grand Canyon. 🙂

Anyway, it doesn’t matter which part of the Canyon you see, and it’s difficult to see them all anyway (Grand Canyon stretches thousands of miles). But taking a helicopter tour at the Grand Canyon National Park and it’s one of the best decisions I made for the year!

The Grand Canyon National Park covers mainly the South Rim and North rim of the canyon. I joined a local tour and took off from Phoenix. It took about 3-4 hours to pass Sedona and reached the amazing Grand Canyon Helicopter site – but trust me, the ride raised me up and I saw the best of the south rim and north rim.

The gasp moment as the helicopter entered Grand Canyon

When the helicopter took off, the trees and roads became so tiny. For one second the helicopter reached the Grand Canyon and everybody gasped. I finally got an idea of how HUGE and SPECTACULAR the Grand Canyon is…

It was spectacular. That day the sky was clear, I could see the horizon. In winter, the canyon was covered with layers of ice, but I didn’t feel so cold with all the sunshine. The white of the ice, and red of the rocks, and the blue of the Colorado river combined to form the best scenery in the mighty nature.

So I used up all the batteries of my camera and iPhone that day…

The helicopter ride was about an hour for about US$200 – I reckon it is good value compared to other places as it’s a once in a lifetime experience.

The Helicopter ride covers:

Marble Canyon, Pointe Imperial, Little Colorado River, the Dragon Corridor, and, of course, the North Rim

(They were also selling a DVD of the helicopter ride recordings, but Nah… I would never see it at home)

  1. Such great views from the helicopter! Your shots turned out great. We’ve been to the Grand Canyon many times, but now we need to experience it from above.

  2. I don’t think I have ever seen shots of the Grand Canyon from the air before. It must have been incredible to see live. The photos are overwhelming.
