Witness the magic of the Great Barrier Reef

While cities can be just as enticing for children as they are for adults – if you are interested in that, check out the wondrous playground of water parks and roller coaster rides of the Gold Coast – the natural wonders of the Australian continent are what truly takes the cake. For an unmatched sense of awe in front of a natural marvel, look no further than the Great Barrier Reef. This largest assembly of living matter on the planet is a kaleidoscope of wonders that stretch on for roughly 2,900 kilometers (if you count all the individual reefs into the equation). The Great Barrier Reef is, in fact, so vast it can actually be seen from space. The ecosystem boasts resplendent aquatic flora and fauna which is surely something that will absolutely dazzle your kids and, in all honesty, it will make your jaw drop too. You can access this wonderland from the north-eastern coast of the continent – mostly the state of Queensland. In order to go on a guided tour (or several daily boat trips), your best bet for a good time is to set sail from Port Douglas or Cairns.

Head to Melbourne for the surrounding region

Melbourne is not only one of Australia’s most beautiful cities, but it also boasts a fascinating hinterland filled with beautiful landscapes. While the city itself is not devoid of numerous pleasures, if you have come for a vacation with family, the surrounding suburbs and rural areas are your prizes. The quaint and bucolic quality of the charming small towns and incredible vineyards that house some of the most exquisite wines on the southern hemisphere offer an opportune mix of delights for both adults and children. The entire family can enjoy a superb meal and you and your better half can appreciate a relaxing glass of the prized beverage. Check out at least one of prominent Warrandyte restaurants to test out whether this holds water, or set off for a drive along the expansive coastline of Port Phillip Bay. You can marvel at the string of coastal towns while searching for the most private beach for your family.

Brave the untamed wilderness of Tasmania

Just off the shore on the south-eastern corner of the Land Down Underlies a gargantuan island that is known for its incredible set of landscapes, biomes and impressive landmarks. It is the wildest Australia has to offer but condensed on a significantly smaller topographical layout which, nevertheless, manages to impress with the sheer epic nature of the sites. It also has a mascot in form of a sassy marsupial “devil”. We are, of course, talking about Tasmania, the perfect destination for a family with kids. The numerous national parks on this island are an amazing backdrop for camping trips where you can mingle with other families and forge friendships. Its wilderness is truly impressive, but don’t miss out on giving your kids an interesting historical lesson among the well-preserved Victorian gothic facades of Hobart and Port Arthur. Go on a rollicking adventure in Coles Bay and dabble in sea kayaking with your children, and have a quaint evening on the docks of Hobart after a day filled with outings into the Tasmanian inland.

The Land Down Under is not only an incredibly colorful patchwork of landscapes and urban areas. It is also renowned as one of the most family-friendly destinations in the world. It has a reliable infrastructure and a stable economy, which is a good basis for a family-oriented tourist country, however, it is also far more than that. Australia is a surprising treasure trove of highlights and a perfect playground which can be enjoyed by all generations in equal measure.
